Understanding the Physical Tests for Indian Police Service (IPS) Selection

The Indian Police Service (IPS) selection process involves a rigorous Physical Standards Test (PST) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). Physical Standards Test (PST)

The Physical Standards Test (PST) assesses several physical parameters to ensure that the aspirants meet the basic fitness requirements for the Indian Police Service. Here are the essential criteria:

Height Requirements

Male Candidates: Minimum height of 165 cm. Pahari Male candidates who are classified as ST (Scheduled Tribe) or SC/ OBC (Scheduled Caste/ Other Backward Classes) can have a minimum height of 160 cm. Female Candidates: Minimum height of 150 cm. Pahari Female candidates who are classified as ST or SC/ OBC can have a minimum height of 145 cm.

Chest Measurement (for males only)

Males are required to have a minimum chest measurement of 84 cm with a minimum expansion of 5 cm.

Vision Requirements

Distant Vision: The dominant eye should have a distant vision of 6/6, and the weaker eye should have a distant vision of 6/9. Near Vision: The dominant eye should have a near vision of 0.6, and the weaker eye should have a near vision of 0.8. Colour Vision: No colour blindness or colour vision deficiency. A high standard for the Colour-blind test is required. There should be no inherent night blindness, and vision should be stereoscopic.

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) evaluates the aspirants' fitness through a series of physical tasks designed to measure their endurance, agility, and overall physical capabilities.

Requirements for Male Candidates

100 Meters Race: The candidate must complete this race in 16 seconds. 800 Meters Race: The race should be completed in 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Long Jump: The minimum distance should be 3.5 meters with three attempts allowed. High Jump: A minimum height of 1.2 meters with three attempts allowed.

Requirements for Female Candidates

100 Meters Race: The candidate must complete this race in 18 seconds. 800 Meters Race: The race should be completed in 4 minutes. Long Jump: The minimum distance should be 3.0 meters with three attempts allowed. High Jump: A minimum height of 1.0 meter with three attempts allowed.

Additional Requirements and Notes

No aspirant should be underweight, and vision should be normal. Colour blindness or colour vision deficiency is also disqualifying. Absence of hydrocele and general physical fitness are also important criteria. Ladies should not be pregnant at the time of the medical test.

Additional Notes:
- Blood pressure should be within the specified range based on the candidate's age:
- Age 23-24: 123-124 mmHg
- Age 25-27: 122-124 mmHg
- Age 28-29: 124-125 mmHg
- Age 30-31: 125-126 mmHg
- Age 32-33: 126-127 mmHg

Ear Assessment:
- Good hearing capacity and normal ear cavity are essential.
