The Role of Governance and Legal Systems in Human Society and Survival

Can humanity survive without any form of governance or legal system?

No, humans cannot function without some form of authority asserting governance. This is a simple truth that everyone acknowledges. Though ideally, those in power should be wise, capable, and just, it is a reality that without a framework to guide and organize our actions, human society would descend into chaos. Conflict, which is inevitable without structured governance, arises from the natural discord that occurs when individuals do not follow common rules designed to maintain peace and order.

It is important to recognize that God, or whatever concept of a higher power one might believe in, has allowed human society to develop without full intervention. This period of development has given humanity the chance to prove to ourselves and others that we need the guidance and care of a higher authority, namely, a governance system. We are provided with wisdom in the form of laws and guidelines, which are intended to help us navigate our complex social structures.

Importance of Social Rules and Laws

Living in a social environment in any country requires the acceptance of common rules and laws for peace and harmony. Every individual has personal pride and prejudices, but to live in a social structure with peace, some level of compromise is necessary. If everyone were to "go as they like," it would resemble a chaotic jungle, where humans behave like animals.

Furthermore, if consciousness were allowed to exist beyond the level of dumb animals without governance, humans might indeed live like various species of animals. The question then arises: would we survive?

Considering the principles of survival of the fittest, it is clear that without structured governance, human societies would be governed by our basest instincts, rather than reason and commonality. Governance and legal systems play a crucial role in ensuring that individuals and groups within a society work together for the greater good.

Role of Institutions and their Functioning

The effectiveness of governmental and legal systems depends on the conscious awareness, ability, perceptions, opinions, and beliefs of the individuals working within them. Many individuals in these institutions struggle with rational decision-making, often influenced by factors such as religion, politics, and personal greed. These conditions can lead to suboptimal governance.

It is worth reflecting on why we, as humans, often view non-humans as resources to be exploited, experimented on, hunted, or abused. However, the reality is that non-humans are here to coexist with us. Many humans exploit and abuse other living beings through activities like horse racing, bull fights, dog fighting, cock fighting, and zoos, among others. It is a disturbing reflection of our societal values.

We must recognize the inherent value of life and the environment, and strive to coexist with non-humans in a harmonious manner. This requires a shift in our perspectives and actions, moving away from exploitation and towards coexistence and conservation.

Conclusion

To conclude, governance and legal systems are essential for the survival and functioning of human society. They provide a structured framework that helps maintain peace, justice, and order. While individuals may occasionally fall short in these roles, the collective benefit of governance cannot be underestimated. As we move forward, it is vital to foster an environment where both humans and non-humans can coexist harmoniously, guided by principles of love and respect for all living beings.
