Kato liked hiding in fridges too much so he was out. Jeeves was tops but he was just too toffy for Bruce. Lurch was efficient but intimidating. Benson seemed to know his stuff but had a mouth on him and wanted 5 of Bruce’s earnings. Niles was smart but up himself, and Bruce bid him farewell saying 'oh you English are so superior.' That left Alfred who ticked all the boxes: English, smart, discreet, and a snappy dresser.
