True Christianity: Beyond Surface-level Belief

True Christianity goes beyond the simple act of attending church or reciting biblical verses. Following Christ is not simply about adhering to external rules or imitating His actions. It is about embracing one's own unique path and essence.

Understanding True Christianity

Renowned scholar David Tacey encapsulates the essence of true Christianity when he states, 'A true Christian is someone who has learned from Christ’s awe-inspiring life which teaches us to live our own lives as Christ had lived his.'

True Christianity, as explained by Carl Jung, requires us to embrace a transformative journey. He puts it succinctly, 'We all must do what Christ did. We must make our experiment. We must make mistakes. We must live out our own vision of life... When we live like this we know Christ as a brother and God indeed becomes man.'

The Psychological Prototype of True Christianity

In his influential 1934 paper, “The Development of Personality,” Jung elucidates that Christ's life is a psychological prototype of a life that strives for the individual realization of one's unique law. True Christianity is about true personality realization. Jung states:

"To the extent that a man is untrue to the law of his being and does not rise to personality he has failed to realize his life's meaning."

According to Jung, when we develop our true personality and live our own lives, we gradually uncover God's purpose for us. This is the essence of true Christianity.

Jesus Christ’s Priorities and Their Relevance Today

From a biblical perspective, Jesus Christ’s ultimate goal was to declare the Kingdom of God. Matthew 4:23, Luke 4:43, and Luke 8:1 all highlight this. Following Christ's example, His followers continued to assert this message. Acts 1:8 and Acts 19:8 further support this continuity.

Today, this theme is being echoed by organizations like Jehovah's Witnesses around the world. Matthew 24:14 and 1 John 5:3 underscore the universal call to spread this message.

Beyond Labels: True and False Christians

There is no such thing as a 'true' or 'false' Christian. The term 'Christian' simply means a follower of Christ. If one follows Christ's teachings and example, they are to be considered a true Christian. The decision to identify oneself as such ultimately rests with the individual, guided by their own inner experiences and conscience.

Jung’s concept of the individuation process is the closest modern equivalent to the idea of becoming a true Christian. It is a journey of self-discovery and self-realization, where one’s true essence and love are lived out faithfully. Aslan, as mentioned by Paul, only tells us our own story.
