Directional Trajectories of Voyager 1 and 2

According to recent analysis, Voyager 1 is currently traveling at a speed of approximately 3.5 Astronomical Units (AU) per year, heading 35 degrees out of the ecliptic plane to the north, with its trajectory aiming towards the constellation Ophiuchus. This direction is the result of the sun's motion relative to nearby stars, known as the solar apex. Similarly, Voyager 2 has left the Solar System and is also moving through interstellar space, although its path differs somewhat from Voyager 1. Voyager 2 is moving more sideways and downward, being approximately 3 billion kilometers behind Voyager 1.

Interstellar Travel and Expansion of Space

The concept of space travel and interstellar exploration is complex. While Voyager 1 and 2 are heading away from the Sun, the idea of a fixed direction in space can be misleading. In reality, everything in space is in motion, whether it's Earth spinning on its axis, orbiting the Sun, or the Sun moving relative to other stars. Future of the Voyagers

Given the vastness of interstellar space and the long-lived nature of the Voyager spacecraft, their future trajectories are subject to various factors. As the navigational systems eventually diminish in power, the spacecraft may lose their orientation and begin to tumble. The gravitational forces from nearby stars will also impact their paths. Assuming they do not encounter any significant obstacles, both spacecraft will continue to travel into the interstellar space for millions of years, drift gradually, and eventually be impacted by interstellar objects, or in a distant future, be retrieved by advanced spacefaring civilizations.
