Why Rey and Finn Captivate Fans Despite Critics
Why Rey and Finn Captivate Fans Despite Critics
If you don’t already feel that way, nothing I say is going to adequately explain it to you. I’ll just say that I am pushing 50 pretty hard and Rey is a character I have been waiting for since I was 9—and I like Finn even more. This passion is shared by many fans who have watched the saga evolve over the years.
Personal Opinion: Rey and Finn’s Potential
I find your lack of faith disturbing. I think these new characters are great. They’re just... different. Starting something new like that, even with an already big momentum, is tough. And yet, these folks did it. They’re still growing. Potentially, it’s also the plot holes that are getting in the way but I’m sure they’ll be fixed.
Exciting Character Development
I personally loved the new Star Wars actors and actresses. The arc for Finn and Rose was really exciting. Without their storyline, we wouldn’t have had the clarification of a theme that would have ruined the entire film for me. We wouldn’t have found the new young force users, and the movie would have ended prematurely due to the code breaker not telling the First Order that the resistance was leaving in escape aircrafts.
Pivotal Scene Impact
During one scene, the code breaker showed Finn that the resistance was purchasing illegal weaponry with the First Order. This destroys any moral high ground the resistance had. However, when Finn was going to destroy himself, Rose saved him, then kissed him and said that, "That’s how we’re going to win—not fighting what we hate, saving what we love." This moment not only brings the story together but also communicates a powerful message. The First Order, though they are supremacist and nationalist, are fighting due to hatred. In contrast, the Resistance, even though they may have purchased paramilitary supplies illicitly, ultimately saves what they love. This distinction makes the Resistance a more compelling and relatable group.
The Legacy of Nute Gunray
Nute Gunray was a waste of a perfect bounty hunter name. He was a mere footnote, with relatively infinitesimal screen time, and was overshadowed by the dynamic characters introduced in the new Star Wars saga. The name Nute Gunray was perfect for a bounty hunter, but the character did not live up to the potential of the name. The characters like Rey and Finn are the ones who have truly captured the hearts of the audience.
Conclusion
This is a matter of personal opinion. If you don’t enjoy the direction they’re taking Star Wars in, that’s cool! But don’t be so toxic around people who do enjoy it. Let people have fun. If you’re not enjoying it, that’s great, but just leave it at that. Fernando J Palladino and many others would agree that these new characters bring a freshness and depth that is essential for any new character development in a beloved franchise.
