Why Tyrant Deserves More Attention and Affection: An In-Depth Look

Ever since my journey with Nip/Tuck on FX, I've always been a loyal viewer for their fare. From Rescue Me to Sons of Anarchy, Justified, and The Americans, I've always given their offerings a fair chance, and I generally end up enjoying them. As a fan of drama, I have a soft spot for Tyrant, a show that recently turned its head in a different direction that surprised me.

A Deviated Story Thread Spurred Anticipation

One of the most intriguing elements of Tyrant was the sudden death of a major character, the brother of the main protagonist, Khalid. His character had quickly become a compelling antagonist and thus his departure left me with mixed feelings. The decision to kill him off was indeed risky, but it also created a void that could potentially be filled with new and exciting storylines. It's natural to wonder what happened to him and whether his character would resurface in subsequent episodes. But, as usual, I chalk it up to the often unpredictable nature of television drama.

Exploring the Human Element and Character Development

On the other hand, there are elements about Tyrant that are deeply relatable and endearing. The current storyline has our protagonist, Dr. Tyler A. T. Avery, losing multiple family members. His father, mother, brother, and even what he thought was a long-lost nephew - all are not only emotional blows but also contribute to a detailed and intricate narrative. Hence, these elements make the show particularly poignant and worthwhile to follow.

The Supportive Cast and Added Depth

Speaking of additional cast members, the general's involvement in a relationship with his wife adds another layer of complexity to the plot. This development could potentially enhance the show's depth, providing more nuanced character interactions. Additionally, in the current storyline, the focus on Tyler's son who comes out as gay highlights an important social issue. While the role of a blonde wife is not very fitting for the show, the storyline involving the gay character is not only necessary but also serves to foster a more inclusive environment. It’s a well-intentioned effort to create a more open-minded acceptance and tolerance of such reality in our everyday life.

Missed Opportunities and Marketing Challenges

The narrative hinging on a Muslim area of the world might pose a challenge for a broad audience. However, it’s also an opportunity to explore a different perspective and break away from typical stereotypes. The Tyrant showrunners are tackling these issues head-on, despite the potential backlash from viewers who prefer shows that are relatable to the average American.

Conclusion and Call to Action

Overall, Tyrant is an underrated show that deserves more recognition. Despite its unconventional storyline and its less than ideal adaptation in America, it still captivates me with its dynamic characters and complex plot. If you're a fan of drama and deep, emotional storylines, you should definitely give Tyrant a chance. Don’t let the perception that it might be too niche deter you; it's worth the watch. For the curious and the open-minded, let's give Tyrant the attention it deserves.
