Wishful Creatures: Imagining the Magical and Fascinating Fictional Animals

In the realm of literature and fantasy, various creatures captivate our imaginations. From the enduring legend of the phoenix to the whimsical folklore of brownies and unicorns, each creature embodies special qualities that resonate with us. So, what fictional animal do you wish were real?

Desired Fictional Animals

The Phoenix: Immortal, wise, and possessing extensive healing powers, the phoenix is a majestic symbol of rebirth and renewal. It is often associated with the rise from the ashes, making it the epitome of resilience and hope.

Brownies: These mystical beings are often depicted as cleaning sprites who leave gifts in exchange for simple rewards, such as a bowl of milk. Their presence would bring a touch of magic to ordinary household chores, making the mundane tasks a joy.

Unicorns: Known for their beauty, magical powers, and kindness, unicorns are a symbol of pure goodness. Their presence would bring peace and harmony wherever they appeared, making the world a more enchanted place.

Historical Desires: When Fantasy and Reality Converge

Historically, the desire for certain creatures to become real has spanned time and cultures. One of my earliest fascinations arose from the movies and books I enjoyed. After watching The Ant Bully, I became enchanted with the idea of giant frogs, human-sized ants, and big bees. Unlike many of my peers who found these concepts disgusting, my obsession brought me closer to a potential friend who shared my interest. Giant ants would harmonize seamlessly with our society, aiding and working alongside humans.

Big bees could be a fascinating blend of utility and entertainment. They could be ridden as a means of transportation, similar to how horses are used, while still fulfilling their essential role in pollination. This dual functionality would revolutionize how we travel and care for our environment.

Current Aspirations: Living Among Giants

Now, what captures my imagination more than ever is the idea of giants. The prospect of coexisting with a population of humans standing 100 feet tall is thrilling and terrifying, yet fascinating. The sheer scale and power of such beings would undoubtedly reshape our world, but the uncertainty of such a scenario also brings a sense of excitement and anxiety.

Once, I even posed this idea to my friends, asking what they would do if they could become giants. Their responses were revealing. One of my friends wasn’t sure how he would handle such power, while I, perhaps naively, expressed my desire to trust myself with the responsibility of such immense abilities. Giants could profoundly impact society, akin to the role of superheroes in comics and cinema, but their presence would also raise complex ethical and logistical challenges.

What I Would Not Wish Were Real

While the above creatures are magical and desirable, some mythical beings are more terrifying than enchanting. Werewolves, Wendigos, and other such creatures invoke fear and chaos, which are traits we generally prefer to avoid in our daily lives. These dark and haunting entities would bring unnecessary danger and unpredictability into the world.

Wishful Wonders: Magical Beings from Fantastic Beasts

Among the myriad magical creatures, one stands out as a symbol of magic and wonder: Dougal the Demiguise. A demiguise has the ability to become invisible, and the idea of such a cloak would be a marvel in the magical world. In practical settings, the demiguise could be used to create an invisibility cloak that is not a Deathly Hallow, but a powerful tool for both espionage and protection in every day life.

Mermaids: My ultimate wish for a mermaid would be a compassionate and beautiful one, a protector of the seas, and a symbol of both grace and kindness. They would be an enchanting presence, not just as a product of fantasy, but as a real, living entity that people could admire and learn from.

Thank you, Daryl Hannah, for bringing us the enchanting mermaid Madison in the 1984 movie Splash. This film undoubtedly inspired my love for mermaids and their dual existence between land and sea, embodying the beauty and mystery that captivates us in merpeople.
